Water pump leaking

Could this problem be caused by painting my timing cover? (351m)

Where is it leaking? Around the impellar shaft, or around the gasket? If it is around the gasket, then I think you answered your own question and you just need a new gasket. If it is around the shaft, then, experience has taught me that it is time for a new pump.

usually when i paint a timing cover the gasket becomes part of it, it wont come off ever. get yourself a mechanics mirror, or a dental mirror. take a look at the weep hole on the bottom side of the casting snout, that's where they leak when the shaft seal lets go. BTW, a cheap water pump is no bargain.

Its leaking around the bottom so the pumo is still good and there are no peices of old gasket left. The gasket it was leaking from was brand new. So along with a new gasket I scraped the paint off and hopefully it won't leak this time.

No worry there. lol I have never even seen an auto zone. None in my province. Are there any in Canada?
