I Need a Transmission

I Need a Transmission
It took 167,000 miles to wear out my transmission. Code P1746
Transmission scanner says to much pressure is causing it to shift early.
It's a 4R70W 2WD 1998 4.6L F-150
I'm looking for a good place to buy one.
Can you just drop the old one and install a new tranny without distrubing the computer or do I need to change anything?
Thanls for your help

do you plan to keep the truck another 100,000 miles
can you do the work yourself?
have you considered a crate tranny from the dealer?
many auto recyclers will sell a used trans with a limited warranty
if you cant do the work, they can recommend a repair shop that can
the correct trans will bolt up, hook up the electrical connections
disconnecting the battery should clear all codes
someone from your local chapter may be able to point you to a competent repair shop
good luck =)

Going to try it Myself
I'm going to try to fix it myself. The Ford guys tell me this code is most likley due to a bad solenoid, link and connector. The parts are less than $75.00 but they are above the valve body. I can replace tranny's but going onside is new to me. Except for fluid and filter changes. I will have to remove the vavle body which dosen't appear to be a big deal but when little parts come falling out it turns the whole thing into a big deal. We will see what happens.
Thanks for the help

I got the same code... dealership did more damage than good trying to change the solenoid. When I took it in I had a flashing light, when I got it back reverse didn't work, it down shifted really hard, and I wound up having to have the transmission replaced anyway. I wish I had just saved the $450 I wasted at the dealership.
New trans has been in a little over a year, just long enough for the warranty to expire... OD light started flashing this weekend... I only got 20k out of the reman tranny, and a little over 100k out of the original.
Good Luck!

It's Fixed
Today I removed the valve body and replaced the EPC Solenoid, Connecter and Link. The parts cost was $130.00 and it took about four hours. I went for a 40 mile ride and it appears to be fixed. The light is not flashing and the shifting is back to normal. It was a little scary. I have not worked inside a transmission before. I worked real slow and took a bunch of pictures so I could see how to put it back together. On The Road Again
