Stock vs Aftermarket Valve Springs
Has anyone installed a mild [250/ 260/ 265] performance cam and kept the stock springs? I'm using stock 1.6 ratio rocker arms so don't see binding being an issue, just worried about valve float. Since the engine will never see any use beyond 4500rpm [and rarely that] is this going to be an issue?
Stock spring rate for my '83 motor is 197 lbs/in, other years are almost identical. Comp Cams recommends a 293 lbs/in rate [single] spring for all their 300 cams. Crane recommends a 438 lbs/in dual spring setup [which seems like serious overkill for a low rpm engine].
I'd like to stay with the stockers if they'll work. Less spring pressure = lower parasitic power loss and less wear. All thoughts/ suggestions welcome...

I bought comp cams kit k66-237-4. Im going to put in when I rebuild the engine here in a few weeks. It came with new springs which I do plan on using which are part number 903-12. I only plan on replacing them because the engine has over 314,000. I'll let you know how it turns out when I get it together.
