Edge Evolution on a 2006 F-150 5.4ltr 4x4 Crew cab

Does anyone out there have an Edge Evolution on their 2006 F-150 5.4 ltr? I am searching for a tuner and I heard Edge is the best.
My 2006 5.4 falls on its face when I punch it. My wifes 2004 Expedition runs considerably stronger than my truck which is supposed to be a new, improved and more powerful engine but it sure doesn't feel like it.
I don't want to spend alot of money and I don't care about gas mileage. I'd just like the truck to shift stronger and have a little better acceleration. Does anyone have first hand experience with the 2006 engine and tuners? Thanks.

Welcome to FTE afc1261. Yeah, I have an Edge in my 06 5.4 Supercrew. I love it. You will definately get stronger shifts, as well as better acceleration. I also get better mileage (when im paying attention). It really is a great unit. The heads up display with 4 selectable screens is damn cool (I show mph, rpm, ampg, and impg). I got mine through the FTE sponsor Discount Power Parts. They had the best price I could find on the net! Hope some other owners can chime in as well.

What was the install process like? Can you screw over your truck with this thing if you don't know what you're doing?

I don't know crap about tuners, so i don't want to blow my engine messing with one. Are they ok for n00bs to play around with?

Thanks.
Rob.

i would love to hear the answer to gigabyte's question... i am a complete novice but my interest is considerably piqued over the veracity with which people talk about these edge tuners.

The install is a simple plug and play setup. Just plug the cable into the OBDII port under the dash, run the wire up to the pod (pics of the pod mounted in my gallery), turn the key on plug the cable into the Edge. After the warnings label comes up just hit menu and pick the program that you want to run. So it is very very easy. If you just level the programs in the "stock" forms they are good, but if you customize them they can be awesome!! You can screw up the truck if you make drastic changes to the programs, but I wouldn't worry about it.

So it is something that can easily be removed if say you need to take it to the very suspicious dealer?

Very Easy To Take Out. I Have A 06 5.4 And Love The Edge. It Took Me About 4 Min And 23 Sec To Install. I Run Level 3 With The Timing At +1. It Really Does Wake The Truck Up. My Best 0-60 Time Was 7.2 Sec. This Was On A Cold Morning, 52 Degrees, 1/2 Tank Of Gas. My Ave. 0-60 Time Is Between 7.9 And 8.2. I Do Have A K&n Fipk And Magnaflow Si/so Cat Back System. Still A Considerable Difference Than Stock. Just Use The Stock Programs And You Will Not Screw Anything Up. I Tried To Modify The Level 3 Pretty Aggressive And My Truck Would Not Allow The Settings, It Would Go Into Failsafe Mode And Not Allow The Truck To Go Faster Than Idle. Go For It, You Will Not Be Disappointed.

If you are going to buy a programmer to improve mileage, then save your money for gas!!! Most people don't really see any changes of MPG, maybe 1-2 mpg at best form others. From what I have seem and heard during numerous posts both here and other sites.

Yes, you can change for larger tires (I had to) and also for gear changes if you make them.

Looks like you all answered it for me. There is a rather informative .pdf file on these Edge units, over at www.edgeproducts.com

I only have the 4.6, but have had a Diablo tuner a Superchips and now the Edge tuner. Running the stock #2 tune, the Edge definately makes the truck feel stronger overall. Much peppier on the bottom and strong through the shifts. The fact that it has the display which is customizable goes a long way towards the extra value in the Edge. It installs in about 5 minutes and programs the truck 10 times faster than the other tuners.

I got lucky and found a used one on Ebay for a lot less than a new one. Made my decision that much easier.

I suspect you'll like the Edge.
