Smile 292 oil pump dilemma

Hi everyone. I'm at it again. I am in the process of trying to decide which way to go with the oil pump on my rebuild of my 292.

I have 2 questions.

1: I have been looking around and have come across a reference to a "gear type" oil pump. Is this different than what came with the engine originally or is it the same. If it is different, is it a bolt up exchange with the original or what?

2: I have also seen a rebuild kit for sale. Are these kits worth it or should I go with the full replacement?

Any help in deciphering this dilemma would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Red, either type pump will fit your motor. You ought to just by a new replacement pump, rather than mess with rebuilding, IMO.

Go new or properly remanufactured. Decades of pumping sludge will have put the gear mesh tolerance out of spec
