Even with the light switch off and the ignition off the brake lights stay on. The pedel is all the way up and the switch is not engaged but the lights stay on. I had to unhook my battery so it wont get drained. Could it be that the switch on the brake pedel is bad and failed in the "on" possition? Do they do that or are there bigger electrical gremlins at work here?

 

Use a test light, and check the wires going in and coming out. If they are both hot, must be the switch. Until you can replace it, you can just unplug it to keep from draining your battery.
