rough start on 98 f150 v6

my 98 f150 starts pretty hard after sitting overnight. It will start fine all day, but after an overnight sit, it needs a good ammount of gas pedal to get going.

It was recently having idle issues while in gear, and stoped. A new airfilter, spark plugs & cleaning the MAF helped bring it up 300 RPM's at idle. It still idles rough at stoplight, but it doesnt feel like its gonna die anymore. I plan on cleaning th IAC this week sometime to see if that helps (per Racer Guys FAQ post).

Any ideas on why such a hard start once, but fine the rest of the day?

With a FI motor you shouldn't need any pedal to get it started. I'm pretty sure the IAC would also, cause the hard start condition you described.

I'd wait and see if the IAC fixes the problem(s). If it doesn't, you may have a fuel feed issue.

RacerGuy always has the good info. He also suggests installing a new IAC instead of cleaning the old one. If your doing the work of taking it off,
just put on a new one, because a cleaned original will often fail again,
and you will have to do the job twice. Be sure to take your negative cable off the battery before doing the work, then let it run 15 minutes when you start it up to reset the battery.

thanks guys.

I checked around and it seems to replace it will be $80. I am going to clean it first to make sure that helps. I hate spending money fishing for fixes. If cleaning makes a difference, i will shell out the $80 for a new one, and deal with doing the work twice.

thanks!

Makes sense. It's good practice either way. Good luck.
