Cleaning and painting

Hey there,
I would like to start cleaning up my engine. and was wondering what every 1 here uses. i have been using some kind of de-greaser but hasent been doing a good job. so lately i have been usesing diesel fuel. and it accually works really good! but it does not evaporate so it kinda just sits there and i dont like that.

and after i get ever thing cleaned up, i would like to pain the whole motor white. all of it, i mean the whole thing! do you think i could make it look good with out pulling the whole motor out?
thanks for all and any of your inpute!!!
Mitch

I have been using "oil eater " for all kinds of stuff. It works good on oil as well as the rest of the truck. It also takes off tree sap and other sludge. BUt Do NOT put it on your paint full strenth. Its easy on the hands too.
You can get it at costco.

Foamy engine degreaser, then dish soap mixed in hot water and *you guessed it* a scrub brush!!!

As for painting it, um, well, it won't look so good painting it in the truck. To make it look right you will have to pull all of the wires and mask off the accessories and the engine compartment. Perhaps you could just pull the valve covers and paint them????
