So what happens if we break the blue thing on the one side and still dont have the line disconnected? Is it possible to disconnect it now? I still havent been able to get either side off and ive used a couple different removal tools including the one in the picture.

If you broke it while it is up, I think you will be fine to take it off and put it back on. It seems like it is just an added safety clip much like the metal one of the motor side. If you broke it in the down position I think you may have to remove the motor side line and pull the filter out of the bracket that way you can get a look at the line going into the filter and see if there is something you can get inside the line to pry the little blue clip up.

What about the fact that I cant get the filter off of either end? Something cant be right here. Everyone is talking about how easy it is and this is definitly not easy.

I used an Ampro T70045 from Advance. Its metal and looks like an "x" and folds up which allowed for a bit of leverage on the line fitting. Once you had the front metal clip loosened, I found you had to insert it into the fuel line and wiggle and pull and the same with the rear. Mine was on pretty tight. They were tighter than I thought they were going to be.

I am not trying to put you down or anything but you do know you will have to pull the hose off of the filter. The clip will not slide off the filter it only goes so far until it hits the stop.

I wish that was the only problem.

mission accomplished

Ive been viewing this thread for sometime now and finally got the guts to try it. At 20k i took my truck to the dealer at they replaced the filter for $50, I saved about $36 (filter 7.99 and 5/16 fuel line tool $7.99) Now with 40k its go time. Overall didnt take very long, it took me many attempts to get the front fitting off and the back side (blue clip end) took 2 tries, not bad. I let it sit overnight and there was no spraying when taking lines off . Reassembly took about 45 sec. Ill give it another try at about 60k. Thanx for all the great post.

2007 F150 XLT

This is the best site on answers to your Ford truck. I just replaced my brakes and fuel filters for the first time on my truck. WOW this was really easy and really step by step instructions.

I can not find which fuse would shut down the fuel pump to change the filter. I located the shutoff but can barely see it much less disconnect it. I dont have the time to let my truck sit overnight to let the pressure go down so I need another option. Any ideas.

Quick Connect Clip Detachment

I am having a hard time getting the quick connect coupler off of the tank side of the fuel filter. The type of coupler is not the blue one shown in the instructions, but is orange. I tried the plastic tool to pop it off with no success. I have a picture but can't attach it to the post Any help??

Replaced my filter last night after reading this and not knowing when the filter was changed, if ever. I decided to unbolt the switch so I could get to it and unplug it. Everything went smooth as far as the filter change and it is about a 10-20min job from start to finish. Unless you have big hands and cant line up the holes on the firewall to remount the switch, I think I cursed the Ford engineers and wish death on them at least 100 times for putting it back there! I am happy its done and seeing what came out of that filter made me wonder how this thing even ran.

Mine has the orange clip also, you push on the clip, it does not pull out then you can use the line removal tool.

You dont need a line tool on the plastic fitting. I recommend using some brake cleaner and shooting some into the fitting to clean out mud and dirt buildup in that fitting. Then as stated lift the lock tab in the center. Once it is unlocked push the fitting toward the filter and simultaneously press the large blue tab in without relocking the smaller tab. It may be easier to use both hands applying pressure to both sides of the large tab. This will release the fitting and simply pull fitting off. It can be sticky or very hard to remove if it is loaded with dirt or mud thus my recommendation to clean it out with brake cleaner first.

If using the line tool makes it easier on that side by all means use it, I just wanted to point out that it was not intended to need the tool.
