how to lean out the 1bl?
#2
on my 82, just assuming its the same, theres a small screw on the bottom of the carb, the screw is pointing twords the passenger side fender.
on mine i ran the truck untill it was warmed up, then with it in park and running i backed the screw off untill it started to sputer then i gave it a quarter turn back.
also depending on how much you lean it out the truck may not want to start when the engine is cold. if you run into this problem there are two tiny screws on the drivers side of the carb, one is to adjust the choke, if the truck seems harder to start tighten this screw alittle.
hope this helps ya out, good luck.

If your truck is puting plugs black in just 5 minutes, it means a masive fuel entrance that can not be corrected just by the Air/fuel mixture screw, fuel level at bowl have to be check/adjust.
Start engine without air filter and using a flashlight give a look inside the barel, if you can see fuel drooping inside the fuel level at bowl is too high, it need adjust or float needle replace.
Does the engine use the electric feedback carby? or just the standard 1bl carter-motorcraft carby?

Its the feedback. This effin truck. Its always something. Half the time it doesnt start, correction 99% of the time. Finally I think i have the wiring problems figured out and it cranks wonderfully( search back in my posts and see the problems ive had) BUt today the fuel filter decided to start leaking. Guess i`ll have to take the carb apart again lol. It wont start while its cranking, but im sure thats to do with the plugs being fouled. Also is anyone running a higher output coil such as a blaster 2 or something along that line? and if so is there any additional wiring i`ll have to encounter besides the typical coil wiring?
thanks guys

1º Check fuel level at bowl and needle valve operation.
2º Adjust Main metering rod to proper level
3º Close the air fuel ratio screw, then open one and half turn
4º Clean/calibrate again plugs
5º Install new air filter
6º Disconnect the Fuel feedback selenoid. The big one located closer to valve cover and 2 wires square connector.
7º Check the climatic control for proper aperation and wide opening as soon as engine start.
Start engine and check for smoke or fuel odor, in this condition the engine should run very lean, since the Feedback Solenoid is not working. If now you notice fuel odor and/or black smoke, it means the feedbak solenoid stuck open and need be replaced. Let engine get hot then stop engine.
Connect a small 12V bulb parallel to 2 wires of Feedback selenoid, reconect again solenoid and start engine. the bulb should blink and the air/fuel ratio should be a bit rich for about 15-45 seconds untill ECM adjust idle. Bulb blink means at least the ECM is working, now you have to obtain error codes and correct troubles as requiered.

84F150Tank,
Find a local mechanic (and I MEAN mechanic, not a "technician") that is a CARB specialist. There are not many around these days and most are probably in their 60's or 70's. Have them check out your machine and rebuild/set it up for you. It'll be well worth the $$$$$ when you get back in it and it starts up right for you. IMHO
