02 Explorer exploding rear glass
I know, we've all heard about the recall of the rear glass hatch for the 02 Explorers. Bad news is the "fix" doesn't help. My rear window exploded into about a cabillion pieces Saturday morning. The recall "fix" was performed on 12/28/04.
So I took it to Tenvoorde Ford in St. Cloud Minnesota, they called Ford and were told since the recall was performed Ford will not stand behind it.
Since the vehicle is going to be replaced in the next couple months, I'm taking note of the new Toyotas and Chevy's. I like the Explorer, I just don't like Ford.
Luckily my insurance company will cover the fix. Its gonna run about $1400.
Moral of the story? Hmmm, the rear hatch is only for looks, not designed to be used. And come to think of it, I've never liked the looks of it either.

I use my hatch every single day about 10 times a day louding things up, and never been a problem for me.

I know you love your Ford product, which is fine, but the bigger picture says that plenty of other makes SUVs do the same thing with the rear window....without cracks in them. And Ford decides to not stand above the rest (like the other brands) and not back their product in this case either.
Memo to self: Keep the 94 Ranger, the 95 Camaro...and find a used International CXT if I want something newer.
