I don't think there is a whole lot you could do. It's really 1 big advantage to having a deisel. You can make big power fairly cheaply compared to a gas motor vehicle with similiar displacement. It's just the nature of the beast - it's not an apples to aples comparison. I'd tell the same thing to a guy that had a 1/2 GM and wanted to race a Ford powerstroke.

As you can tell, I like my trucks. I really have no brand loyalty, but I will never drive a Dodge again after what I experienced with mine, as well as other buddies did. My 2000 F150 was a great truck, but this one's power has me concerend. My GMC is MINE, I bought it, but the Ford is a Lease. Basically, I spoil myself when it comes to new vehicles. I Leased this Ford cause it was a good deal, and I just wanted another truck for a daily driver (to keep miles off the Dmax). I had alot of GMC's which have always been great trucks, but the Ford's deal was better, so I thought I'd give it a try. We'll see how this one pans out after 2 yrs and see if I go back to another GMC 1/2 ton or not.

even with the LLY it is a hot LLY for 06, because the 06 is basically the LBZ hardware in LLY programing. so the 06 LLY is hotter than the 05.
i wouldn't waste my money on a supercharger or anything else. even if you win the first battle, you'll loose everyone after that.
not to derate the vette, but a good diesel program along with an upgraded ally will make your vette look underpowered. as previously said the dmax can run 12's pretty easy.
BTW the aftermarket is already with the new LBZ motor. there is a chip worth 150-200additional RWHP right now. so take that for what it is worth.

prolly not a regular cab LB7 you can probably mod cheaper than a stock vette price. about 20k leaves another 20k to do mods with.
i know a guy running a 120mph in the 1/4 though. change the rear end and with a 6 speed allison, i bet it is possible. not that it would ever handle like a vette.
i think lingenfelter has the vette's figured out though.

In light of this discussion, I am making plans to build a 4x4 1969 Mercury Cyclone with an SCJ, Dana's and a winch on both ends! It will beat any D-Max in all categories!
Seriously though, I spoke with my father-in-law about the new D-Max's. He is a die-hard Ford muscle car guy and Dodge Cummins Turbo-diesel connesuire, and he is very impressed with the new Chevy/GMC HD's. I was surprised to hear him say that.
All in all, a new Cummins with the full Banks compliment will still smoke a similarly modded D-Max. But Dodge has been at it a little longer than Chevy, so who knows what will happen in the next few years.
It's the factory HP/TQ numbers war all over again, only this time it's heavy-duty trucks instead of factory street/strip cars!

i wasn't talking loaded, do you think you need leather and onstar in something you are going to build to be a hot rod?
i don't know how much 4x4 is, but that is what a lot of guys are racing, idk what the actual time differences are though. obviously the 60' times would be different.

"The trucks are a 2003 and 2004 HD2500 Standard Cab Duramax Diesel truck. We have not changed the injectors, the turbo, or even the air filter for that matter. What we do use is our Xcelerator computer reprogramer, Duramaximizer, and two-stage nitrous kit.
We have no problems breaking into the 11's and if we had an NHRA approved roll cage in the 1/4 mile, we could easily run faster."

I believe the 4x4 counters the extra weight by allowing more traction. Stick her in 4x4, brake stand to spool the turbo on an automatic (never have seen a manual duramax) , and let go. You'd get far more traction with all 4 tires receiving power.
The Duramax did not dyno at 270hp. It dynoed around 240hp. At least the 300hp version did.

I would tend to agree Nick as far as the Dmax dynoed at 270 unless it is a 4X2 model and a manual. There is no way you are going to get only a 10% drive train loss if you have a tranfer case and a auto. More like 20-25%.
My auto is the most efficient stock auto I have ever seen. My Vette is stock and has been on the dyno, 337/341. The manuals run about 20 more in both. That is rated 400/400 at the flywheel.
And you right it is the 4x4 that is getting these guys launched and that is the reason they are getting into the 12's. There is no way they could ever launch with a stock suspension setup with just the rear wheels with the amount of torque those engines put out.
