Firmer Shifts

My dad used to have a 94 5.0 F-150.
I do not know which transmission it had. But I loved the way it shifted (however many other people did not it.)
I loved how Firm and solid the shifts were. Under light to moderate accel. the truck got out of first gear very very quickly.

I have a 97 4x4 4.6 with a remanufactured(10k miles ago) 4R70W.

This tranny has painfully excruciatingly smooth shifts takes forever for it to shift gears it seems like. For some reason it is inlove with first gear. Under the lightest accel. it stays in first gear till 15mph (possible exageration)

I am thinking about a superchips tuner. The one where you can firm up shifts and adjust shift points.

Has anyone adjusted shift firmness and shift points on a rig similar to mine and made the tranny act more like the 1994 generation tranny?

I used super chips in my 97 5.4 4r70w. I could make shifts hit hard, but could not change low load and speed shifts. I could change wide open throtle shift points though. But at the time super chips offered muny back garranty and I returned it to stock and returned controler for refund. I liked the firmer shifts, but was looking for more controll of trans with it. I also noticed no power gains, just worse fuel MPG. I would call trans shops and get price on real shift kit installed. My programer cost me 400$ I think you can get shift kit installed for about the same, maybe a little more.

Does your truck w/ the 5.4 shift like i described mine?
How long ago was this? To me it sounded like you were supposed to be able to control everything the tranny does practically.
The tuner for my truck is 465.25 from Super Chips, 311 w/ shipping from other sites found on google.

I want more power
but
what i want the most is the firmer shifts and getting it out of first at 4 mph unless i got it at .5 throttle or higher.

Basically now if i give it 1/4 throttle it stays in first until 3k rpms
1/2 throttle 4500 rpm anything more than half and its in first until 40 - 45 mph or 5k rpm (max)

Basically what i want the shift points to do is, 1%-40% I want it out of first and into second.

Yes, all that I have driven with that trans do hold the gears alot higher in the rpm range. myn holds 1st to about 2500 rpm under normal rpm. Dont now why these trans do this, older e40d and c-6 trans got out of first much sooner. I had the programer about 1.5 years ago. I was under the same impression from reading ads, but all i could change was firmness and wide open throtle shift points. I paid about 350 on sale with some company. My opinion is that I liked the firmness but didn't like the worse fuel mpg.
