After a long snowstorm I now see the need for dual alternators. They electric hydraulic plow drained my truck so low the radio wouldnt stay on and the truck didnt want to stay running. Does anyone know what I can do to add them?
I bought an aftermarket 180 amp high output alt. for plowing. It was only $170.00, and it was a direct bolt-in. I plow for 12-16 hours straight sometimes, and I've talked to guy's that have dual alt. and they don't put out as much as they claim.
I was told it's for the farmers-ranchers..So they have a reserve if one goes oout....I've got 2...never knew I needed them!!! Now I've gotta have 'em!!

from what i have read it is a big pain in the rear to add dual alternators. it would be alot simpler to add a big single one. dual alternators form the factory are both controlled by the trucks computer. if you do a search you will find alot more info, i cant remember it all.

I remember it being about $1000-$1200 to convert from single to dual. It just isn't cost effective compared to a FAT single.
