want to swap 3.0 to 4.0 in my 1992 ranger
I have a 92 ranger that I think the motor may be history in, and I was wondering if I could change the 3.0 to a 4.0. And if I can what all has to be changed and what new stuff would I need, like bell housing or computers, etc. I took the truck to a shop to see what was wrong and the guy said the motor was toast, so I'm thinking that I would like to put in the bigger motor. Thanks for any suggestions.

1. Yes, you could. It was a factory option, the 4.0L was, so it's not that bad for a swap.
2. You need tranny (MUST! Bellhousings don't swap on Mazda trannies), complete engine assembly, engine bay harness (firewall to front end), computer, and that's really all that is mandatory. The rear axle will hold to a 4.0L just fine.
3. There was a 2.3L to 4.0L swap thread I pasted from RPS in the engine swap forum....it's a couple of weeks back, so go and find it and admire it. It'll apply since you want the same end result.
Good luck.
Find a pre-95 year donor and go for it.
