oil pan gasket replacment

i just got done replacing my intake manifold gasket on my 86 f150 351w without breaking off any bolts in the process.i also have an bad oil pan gasket.i read on the forum that you can replace the gasket without jacking up the motor,if so how much clearance would there be if i just dropped the pan to put new gasket in ?could this be done in this manner? thanks

It certainly can be done without removing the pan. Just snake the gasket in under the crank. There was a few inches when I did this on my dad's truck - enough space to fit your hands anyway.

what about the oil pump pickup tube&screen, can you fit your hands down under that to get the gasket around it?

My dad and I left everything in place except the oil pan itself. It can be tricky, but you should be able to do it.

I just changed the oil pan on my 5.0 last month. I'm running the second phase of AutoRX and I think it cleared out a lot of gunk, and I started leaking because of it. Anyway, jacking the engine is quick and easy, and based on the job that I did, mandatory. I have 4X4 and don't know how much different it is than 2WD, but I cannot see a way to change the gasket without jacking. You go from 1" of clearance to 5". 5 inches isn't that much either, but it helps.

I changed the oil pan gasket when I blew my rear main seal. I dropped the tranny, but I never unmounted the engine. I just dropped the pan, and wiggled until I got the gasket under the oil pump, tight, but it was fine. 20000 later, no leaks. I have a 95 F-150
