Misfiring '97

This is a copy of another post I answered. Try doing a search of the fourm, there's lots here on missfires.
There are about 10 different things that can cause a misfire code. You have started with the obvious, coils and wires. You should start it up at nite and rev it up to check for arcing from the wires. The next thing I would try is cleaning the throttle body. Sometimes the EGR and/or the IAC becomes clogged with carbon. Here's a good link for OBD codes.

A code P0300 may mean that one or more of the following has happened:
* Faulty spark plugs or wires
* Faulty coil (pack)
* Faulty oxygen sensor(s)
* Faulty fuel injector(s)
* Burned exhaust valve
* Faulty catalytic converter(s)
* Stuck/blocked EGR valve / passages
* Faulty camshaft position sensor
* Defective computer

1997 4.2 Camshaft sensor
After a check engine light came on. I had Advance Auto check the engine code, stating a faulty camshaft sensor. After removing the sensor, I noticed the center of the sensor cap was missing and also laying under the cap was a magnet and a piece of metal. The piece of metal was from the part of the sensor that goes into the engine. So now I have to replace this part of the sensor. Does anyone know the dificulty of this task, time required and estimated cost?
Thanks

Misfires on the 5.4 are almost always due to the plug and/or the COP. Many times, the coil is good but the coil boot is the problem.
A complete COP is $50 from AutoZone. Individual boots are $10-15.
