I'm considering this truck? 2004 F-250 XLT 6.0 with 143,000 km's (First Super Duty)

I have been wanting to get a 2003 or newer F-250 or F-350 with the 6.0 PSD.
The new ones are out of my price range so I'm looking at used trucks with some miles.

I came across an ad for a 2004 F-250 XLT w/6.0 and short box.
The truck has 140,000 km's and seller is asking $25,000 obo. CDN.
I'm a little leary about the km's and also worried about potential bugs with the 2nd year of 6.0.
What should I look out for?
Are the kms too high?

Thanks,
Zak

If I am correct...that equals about 86996 miles, so I am not a fan of going only by the year of the vehicle when talking about miles. Especially since FORD and many others release vehicles so early these days. Miles are high, but seem reasonable.

Take a look at the VIN door sticker for more info. Will tell you the build date...and all the "GOOD" stuff. Where it was built, axles, gear ratio, etc.

With that many miles, keep in mind that the ball joints may need replacing. Many threads here...read up. Also the ESOF may need servicing (FORD auto hubs have problems). The u-joints need to be looked over. Of course the 4R100 tranny should shift firm.

Before buying any USED vehicle...look into a CARFAX and Oasis (dealer) report. Very important!

I cannot give you much on the 6.0L, but you might go to the 6.0L forum here at FTE. Lots of good people there. Yes, the early 6.0L PSD did have a lot of problems...that is why the Oasis report is so valuable here.

Good luck...and hope it is the truck you think it is!

Thanks Biz!

Can you tell from the picture if those rims are factory?
They look like Excursion rims...

Zak,

Those rims where a factory option (upgrade) on the XLT models. Follow "biz4two" good advice. Also make sure build date is after 09/29/2003 as that is when the 2004 had the 2004 motor instead of the first generation 2003 motor. The 2004 motor had many changes to fix several problems with the first generation 6.0L motor.

Also you may want to go to KBB.com or Edmunds and check pricing for that model.

Good luck
