Question Did the 9 inch Ford ever come in a 8 lug version?

Did the 9 inch Ford ever come in a 8 lug version? How about a full floating axle? If not, can it be converted to 8 lug or full floating?

Actually I have a 10.25 Sterling rear. I was just thinking of the 9 inch rear as an idea for a future project. What about a 9 inch front diff? Were they ever built?

Smile Ford 9"

ClatonK,Warn makes a kit for the 9" that converts it over to a full floater assembly with disc brakes.I do not know if it is still available.

I think the 10.25" rear is stronger than the 9" rear, so I'd keep it on the truck if you are doing anything with it other than cruising on the highway.

I had installed one years ago on an old '75 D200 dodge pickup, and it survived just dandy behind a twin turbo 451 stroker. I broke tranny's, driveshafts, spring perches, leaf springs and so forth, but the rear itself (flange to flange) never broke, even with slicks.

This was not for my truck, just an idea for something else. The full floating 10.25 is much much stronger than a 9 inch. Much stronger than a Dana 60 too. It is about the same strenth as a Dana 70.
