Smile Thinking of buying a 2003 F-150 with 5.4!

hello all,
newbie here. I'm in the process of trying to buy a use 2003 F-150 extended cab pickup with the 5.4 and tow package.

questions:
1) what engine is this? is it simular to the Mustang engine found in 99-04 mustangs?
2) what mods are availible for it? exhaust? programmers?

this truck will be used for my work truck, daily driver........i've been driving a pos dodge dakota for several years now, I figure its about time I deserve something nice. thoughts? comments?

Welcome to FTE and post as much as you want here, were all willing to give input on all questions. hope you get that truck!

The 5.4L V8 is not in ANY mustangs i know of... but hey someone correct me if im wrong... Upgrade wise... You'll find everything, power programmers, cold air intakes, headers, cat back exhaust systems, you name it... search through the forums here and see what some people have done... All upgrades are rather easy on these trucks, and problems are taken care of pretty easy. Im glad to hear you are ditching a frickin Dodge! "Mopoors" as I call them. The 5.4L 333 cubic inch 2 valve per silinder single overhead cam v8 is a great reliable engine that should give you no trouble at all and will last you a long time if taken care of... obviously...

The 5.4 is a stroked 4.6 i think. There was a 4v dohc 5.4 in the cobra r mustang a few years back i think. Anyway, the 5.4 is very reliable. The 5.4 you'll find in an 03 is a 2v 265hp i think?. The only problems this engine has is broken exhaust studs which can be a pain to fix and shooting spark plugs, which wasn't much of a problem if a problem at all in 03 with the new PI heads.
