Required or recommended mods with headers

Somewhere down the road, I am considering headers for my 00 F250 V10 and was wondering what other mods are required or recommended for the V10. Right now the engine is stock, except for the muffler and air cleaner. I am considering buying the SCT Xcal2 programmer/tuner to beef up the performance some.

Also, are there any decent and reasonably priced short headers that bolt up to the stock exhaust header pipe or do I have to replace everything back to the Catalytic converter?

I would definitely go with some sort of computer tuner. The headers tend to lean out the fuel mixture and sometimes actually reduce your power output, so you want to increase the pulse width of your fuel injectors to rich-en it up a bit. that is a great combo for some good power. I would recommend the diablosport predator flash tuner, but I haven't used it yet. It seems like it has some excellent features, plus you can change the settings as your list of mods grow. The headers you can buy off of ebay are decent. I have them. they do bolt right up to the stock y pipe. they are just kind of a bitch to put in.

Superchips 1715 is a great way to go. Seeing you have a 00', there is a spesific tuner for the V10. There is really nothing out there for the 05's hence the reason for Charlie needing a superchips Excal2. Diablo sport has nothing for the V10. They have been promising is for years now. I got sick of waiting and baught my SCMT 1715.

I have been running the Banks Powerpack for over a year. I installed the tuner this past summer. It was the last addition to make all the other mods (intake, headers, increased pipe diameter, new y pipe, and new muffler) really worth it.

So now all I need is 4.30 gears or 4.56 or 88's if I get ambitious and add a DR 4.5" lift

It sounds like you may have done part of what I did to my '03. I put on the K&N intake system along with a Helix Tower Power. And for the exhuast I put on a Flowmaster. I am planning on mandrel bent headers to help it breath just a little bit better. There are a lot that look like they are exact replacements. My performance buddies are recommending the Hooker, Hedman, or Gibson headers. We'll see when we get that far since I'm waiting until the warranty is up on my truck. The dealership has looked the other way so far on the mods but I don't know if they would like seeing new headers too.

The diablo sport tuner for V10's has been listed for close to two years now. If you order it through any retailer it will be back ordered. Motorhaven only has them listed for V8 engines not V10's. If you go on diablo's site they still state "V10 engines added soon"

Like I said I got sick of waiting and baught a SCMT 1715

Sometimes it is tough being the only kid on the block. The V10 engine is a great engine but is relatively rare is comparison to its V8 small brother. The V10 is last to get any tuners or any performace part for that matter.

Hey boxcar, did you try my websight attachmnet? It says for v10's, but I haven't tried to order one from them yet. I guess I'm going to have to go with the superchips flasher too. My mistake then

Since I have a California truck, and have to have it smog checked every two years, what headers have the EGR port? I looked at the ebay stuff, but it looks like they're all without the EGR port.

Ebay headers definitely do not have the egr port on the driver side header. You have to drill a hole and weld in a male pipe thread fitting. I'm not 100% sure who has the egr ports, but I suspect the gibsons do. I dont think the borlas do. When I first put my headers in, I did not connect the egr, and I passed emissions with flying colors. My truck had less emissions than most hondas. I can send you a picture of my emission report for proof. I did have to clear the engine code before I went in though

I think Banks and Borlas come with EGR. On the Eurekaboy website, he had problems with the EGR and Borla's. In CA. there is also a visual inspection to go with the sniffer test so you will need to re hook up the EGR.

I didn't know they do a visual out there. I'm in IL, so I think we are a little less strict on that sort of thing. BTW there is a little more to the egr mod with the ebay headers.

Yeah the visual even has me nervous about a y-pipe mod. Almost better to go with a CARB approved header/y-pipe set up.
