Is the 6.4L a Six Cylinder?
Found this site put up by Navistar's South American subsidiary. It has lots of details on a 6.4L diesel engine. You don't suppose Ford is just going to bolt on another turbo and work the emissions on this engine?

OK... You'll notice that one of the vehicles that the engine is supposed to be used in is the F250. Wonder if that F250 is for the South American market only. Why would International be advertising this engine as an application for the F250 if they have no plans to install it in one?

They were sold here for a few years. Best automotive diesel engine I have had anything to do with.

That 6 cylinder talk is funny, cause just today I was taking to someone that heard a rumor that it might be a V6 with twin turbo.
He said the bad thing about twin turbo is that if they are stacked, when one turbo goes bad it almost always takes out the second turbo also. Very costly. He said CAT has a diesel engine in some of their equipment that has the two turbos stacked, when one goes bad it takes out the other and it's around $10,000 in damages.
It will be interesting to see who is right when it finally is released. Will it be a bored out 6.0, or a whole new V8, or I-6, or V6........

My thoughts exactly about the 6 cylinders. The south American International website is very clear that they have a 6.4L 6 cylinder engine and the F250 is an application for either that engine or the 4 cylinder. Since there is absolutely no way Ford would put a 4 cylinder in a Super Duty, it obviously points to the six. So what does it all mean? Can anyone tell by looking at that engine if it is a straight 6 like the Cummins or a V?
And what do you mean you heard a rumor? Anyone of any credibility? And what about those camera phone pics of an eight cylinder in testing?
Dang I'm hanging on by a thread here.

Here is part of the news releas from the web site..."Navistar International Corporation (NYSE: NAV) announced today that its South American engine subsidiary, International Engines South America, has agreed to acquire MWM Motores Diesel Ltda (MWM), a major Brazilian diesel engine producer. Purchase price was not disclosed.
MWM produces a broad line of medium and high speed diesel engines ranging from 50 to 310 horsepower for use in pick-ups, vans, light and semi-heavy trucks, as well as agricultural, marine and electric generator applications. OEM customers include a number of the most important corporations in the automotive, agricultural and industrial segments, including General Motors, Volkswagen and Nissan. Annual production exceeds 85,000 engines with 2004 revenues for the privately held company of approximately $370 million."
International purchased this company March of 05.

The 6.4L will be a v8,it will have a dual stage turbo setup, and instead of a high pressure oil system it will be high pressure fuel. I think the block is based on the 6.0 with the changes for the oil and fuel systems. They are supposed to run very clean they put a particulate filter in the exhaust for this, and you can stand in front of the tailpipe and not smell diesel at all. The worst part about them is going to be that to do alot of the repairs to them you are going to have to lift the cab off to get to anything.
