leaking gas

86 F250 460 4 barrel carb, no modifications. all stock
carb leaking gas from the thottle area. not sure exactly were. should i rebuild it with a rebuild kit or just get new one? if rebuild what do i need? if new what kind? about how much does a new/ new rebuilt cost approx. alot of the plastic parts on existing card are semi melted. is that rebuildable also?

dont know much about carb. though i can figure out. some advice would be great.

A lot of the time you can buy a new carb for less than what it costs to have someone rebuild yours. If you buy the kit and do it your self, you should save a bit. My experiance with rebuilds is mixed. I have done it myself on 1 and 2 bbl carbs with good luck. I paid to have it done on a work truck and did not have any better carb than when I started. I bought a new Carter AFB for less than the cost of the rebuild and fixed years of fighting the old dodge.

maybe i'll just try to find a new/used carb. approx. how much is the going rate?
