Finding ratio by counting teeth
How do I do it? I can't remember. I know you're supposed to count the number of teeth on the pinion and the ring gear but do you divide or multiply them??? I picked up a center section today from a salvage yard but the pinion section was missing and so was the tag. It came out of a 4x4 so I think (and pray) that it is a 3:50 ratio.
Thanks in advance.

X-lent, A Math question !
ie: Ring gear -39 teeth
Pinion gear - 13 teeth
39 divided by 13= 3 which equals 3.00:1 ratio
