front end noise (rumble)
Hello, I have a 1993 ranger 4 x 4 with 100,000 miles on it. It has a low grade rumble in the front end. It has been doing this since i bought it with 75,000 miles on it.
at first i thought it was the tires but now i don't think so. at maybe 45 mph i can hear this low rumble..not a big deal but i know something is not right. when i turn hard to the right (at 45 mph or more) the sound disappears, if i turn to the left, it gets louder.
To me it sounds like a wheel bearing, that's how it usually acts on front wheel drive cars. SO i replaced the right front inner and outer wheel bearings. They weren't bad and it didn't help a bit.
Then i was thinking maybe it is a cv joint or something.....but they don't turn under normal conditions...right?? THey only turn when the 4 wheel drive is engaged right?
Does anyone have any idea what this noise can be? it actually seems to be getting louder over time. Thanks, in advance, Kent
