Newbie Brake Help
Hi all,
A friend and I spent the day vainly working on my 98 F-250, 4.6L 4 X 4 brakes today. The front brake rotors are rust welded on beyond belief. We pulled the wheel, took the pads and mountings off, then couldn't get the rotors off. I picked up a Chilton's manual, which was a bit confusing on what was what. My truck is not a super duty, but there are 7 lugs that the rotor mounts on. SD's have eight, and you have to remove the hub, but there is no diagram for one with 7. (F-150's seem to have 5). Do we have to remove the whole hub assembly (three nuts in the back) to remove the rotors? The manual doesn't indicate this, but we beat the heck out of it, and shattered a three claw gear puller trying to remove it, to no avail.
Thanks

An F250 with 7 stud wheels is also called an F250 Light Duty and later it was changed to an F150 7700. It's basically an F150 with a few bigger parts, 7 stud wheels etc.
It's totally different than a Super Duty.
After you remove the caliper support the rotors should just pull off unless they are very rusted to the hub.
If you snoop around in this forum you'll find lots of posts on the same problem. Quite often you'll end up cutting the rotors off if beating them with a big hammer doesn't work.
