Question Need some help please...

Hello there,
I am new to this forum, and would just like to say hello. Well, I also wanted to ask a few questions. I am looking to buy a used F-150. It is a low mileage '98 4x4 regular cab with the 4.2L V6. It looks like it is in great condition. Not a scratch or any rust to be seen. However, I have been reading about some gasket problems that the 4.2 has. Is this something I should be concerned with? I already talked with the dealer, and he has no records on it so I have no idea if this problem has been corrected on this particular truck. Also, I would like to hear your opinions on the 4.2. I have driven both the 4.6 and 5.4 at work. They are super tough engines and just great trucks that just never quit, no matter what we do to them. Any thoughts or comments that you have would be greatly appreciated. Thanks...

Welcome to the boards!! You may want to ask this in the 4.2 forum. They may have more detailed info for this engine. I did not know they put the 4.2 in a 4x4 Hey I learned something today. Alright now my head hurts lol. I have had a 98 4.2 2wd and now have a 4.6 4x4 and would not want to go nack personally. But if the price is right...

Good Luck and WELCOME

The 4.2 Is A Great Engine, But The Early Ones Always Seem To Crap Out Around 80k Miles. The 4.2 In A 4x4 Is A Bit Underpowered, 2wd Is Just Fine. I Have An 01' 2wd And It's Been Great.
