Thumbs up Diesel. Good enough for my truck. Good enough for my sports car.

Thought you guys may be interested in this.

Mercedes-Benz is releasing 2 new cars soon (I unfortunately doubt they will be available in the US).
The SLK320Cdi
And SL400Cdi
Both are convertibles. Unfortunately they aren't released yet, so I have't got any photos for links.
Details are as such:

SLK320Cdi (3.2litre V6 tri-turbocharged)
280hp
470lbft
0-60 in 5s flat
The three turbochargers (yeah I know, 3!!!) are set up as such:
Two small turbochargers are set up in parrallel, and are bolted as close as they can get to the exhaust ports on each bank to minimise turbo lag and "spool-up" time.
Exhaust gases then get directed, from the two small turbos, to a a third (much larger, and centrally located) turbocharger, which provides much more boost.

SL 400Cdi (4litre V8 twin-turbocharged)
308hp
546lbft
0-60 in 5.5s

Both cars are electronically limited to 155mph, and both return well over 30mpg...

I know this is from a competitive manufacturer, and not really related to the 7.3l, but I find this kind of stuff interesting, and thought you guys might as well.

But the best news. Mercedes Benz has admitted it is working on a 6.0l V12 diesel.
Figures are expected to be: Around 500hp and 750lbft
I think a revolution is starting. Your thoughts???

Bring it on!!!
The carmakers, all brands, makes and models do need to address the need for a more, shall we say, affordable option as well. That is where they will sell millions of units.

They must have stolen my idea from a post Kwik made several months ago. He had a picture of a little turbo. I suggested that he aquire 8 of them and put them on a set of Zoomie headers.

Now to be more serious, I did see one of those on car and driver TV a few months back, and fell in love. That car rocked.

Just curious, which one, the SL, or SLK?
Was it the diesel version?

and you eight turbochargers, would be an interesting idea...

It was the SLK320Cdi......I think. I remember it was a turboed diesel, and they were commenting on how quick it was. Now you got me thinking if it was Car & Driver or Motorweek that had the feature. I'll try to find out.

Cool, that uses the Gen II diesel (a single variable vane turbo inline 6).
The SLK uses a V6, and apparently with its 3 turbochargers it has no apparent turbo lag...
