CRank Sensor

Check the Crankshaft sensor... about 112 from the lovely ford dealership.

Does it crank like the batteries and bad or is it a "healthy" turn over....just not firing up?

The cam positon sensor ( CPS ) would be my suggestion. The CPS gives input to the tach......if the tach is acting strange......the CPS is probably bad. It's a common problem on the 7.3.

start with the basics, engine oil level? hpop levels as stated before, doubt its the batteries if it died while driving. Wait to start light coming on? try and read the codes, hopefully it stored something even if you didnt get a CEL. I agree that it sounds like a CPS but its always best to start low. Oh it does have fuel in it right?? lol just kidding.. anyway keep posting
