wheel offset in a tci mustangII

Hi

I have a '53 F100 into which I am placing a TCI Mustang II kit into.
Does anyone know what the wheel offset is? I am changing from the 5x5 1/2 pattern to the 5x 4 1/2 and I need to order new wheels. I would appreciate anyone's input.

Thanks,

Gary

Gary -

Generally speaking, you need to measure the backspace for yourself, since every setup can be a little different.

My 56 has a FatMan MII IFS, which is going to be the same geometry. My front rims are 15 X 6 with a 3.00 backspace (offset). The wheels are about an inch inside the fender lip. You can see pics in my gallery "Randy's 56".

What you want to do is get some "rollers"... i.e. some stock 15" steel wheels from the wrecking yard with the correct pattern. They usually charge around $20 ea. around here for them. Then head down to Walmart, and buy some cheap tires... or go to a used tire dealer. don't pay more than $100 for both fronts. As for size, get a 205 or 215 70 to start.

THEN, you can measure out, or in and determine what size you want from there... a little more offset, a little less... usually an inch or so from the fender lip is a minimum.

Also... what are you doing with your stock brakes and backing plates, if you want to sell them, send me an e-mail at sstrube at comcast.net or a PM with your e-mail addy... and how much you want for them.

Thanks,
Sam.

Gary,

I just ordered the TCI kit from a vendor on E-bay (fatrodder). Did your kit come complete with the boxing plates for the frame? I think I read somewhere the Fat Man kit comes with the boxing plates, as well as the Heidts kit. Just wondering what to expect.

I installed a TCI Mustang II on my '50 F-1. It came with boxing plates. I did measurements considering the installed IFS, fenders and tire size and came up with the 15" offset.

I have also got a T.C.I.mustang II, and I installed 16x8 torq thrust II wheels with 3.75 b.s. and p22550R16 tires, plenty of room. My truck is a 56 but don't think its any different. Wayne

My kit did come with backing plates. i am having an experienced mechanic do it for me.
He did not like the air ride setup and is trying to talk me into the coil spring setup. he called tci and told him that the coil overs lower the truck too much and people that installed them are disappointed. thanks for your input I'll let you know how it goes.

I plan on using torgue thrust 17" wheels.
