Flathead 6 Question
#2
Hello,
The 226 was standard in cars and light to meduim duty trucks from 48 to 51. In 1950-53 the 254 was standard in F-6s-600s. The 226 was known as the H type the 254 was known as the M type. The 226 was rated at 95 hp @3300 rpm with 180 lbs of tourge at 1200 rpm. The 254 had 110hp at 3400 and 212lbs at 1200 rpm. The 226 had a 3.30 inch bore and a 4.40 inch stroke. The 254 had a 3.50 inch bore with a 4.40 inch stroke. Both in engines shared a lot of external parts like gaskets. The 254 shared some internal parts like piston pins with the E series V8 engines in F-7s and 8s. It looks like a 226 bored out to 0.20 will give you a 254.
