I found a Tach!

Hey y'all!

My dealer has found a instrument cluster with a tach in a salvage yard in Williston and I can get it for $100. Compare that to 350 bucks for a new one.

But the only problem is that the cluster mentioned above has 86K on it and I'm about to hit 81K in a while. What are my options?

Also, the guys at the dealer said I had to have a wiring harness setup for the tach if I put it in. Does my truck have the wiring harness in the dash for it or do I have to get one?

I need to get some answers on this. Thanks!

hmmm..

the dealership should be able to reprogram the odometer to whatever mileage you have. as far as i know, it should just plug right in...

I forgot to mention that my stock cluster has the analog odometer, not digital, if that's what your thinking.

Remember I have a '97. I should have put this in but I just forgot. Sorry if I confused you!

Tach

Just hook up an aftermarket tach to the pink wire under the hood on the passenger side near the fire wall, you may have to take some of the tape wrap off of the wiring loom to find it. Had one on my old 97 4.2V6 for 4 years with no problems.

I would do that, but I prefer the clean appearance of the tach instrument cluster because I don't want to clutter my interior, and I absolutely don't allow any holes to be cut in the dash.

But that's cool that you did that. Did you have to cut holes in the dash or did you clamp it on the steering column?

Thanks!

Tach

Actually I just screwed it to the left side of the steering column. I bought a 2 and 1/8th inch unit, so it only obscured about half of the gas guage, and with that small of a tach you could just get a pillar mount for the A pillar. The only thing I didn't like was that it was not very bright at night.
