Exclamation Good Mechanic for a 83 F100 I6 problems

Hello All,

I am looking for a good mechanic here in the Boerne, Texas area who knows and understands how to repair and troubleshoot I6 engines. My 83 F100 is having massive problems and I have spent over $1500 so far with no results. my wife is ready to throw me out of the house. Any recommendations will be appreciative.

If your machanically inclined and have some tools, the folks here would be glad to help you troubleshoot your issues and get that I6 into a more healthy state.
Just give us some idea as to what's wrong.

Offered help

I appreciate the offer of help, and I may end up doing that due to budget constraints. I will be able to make a better dtermination at the end of the month on that. But what is going on right now is my Exhaust manifold has cracked twice, and now the third one that is installed is leaking again. I have backfires, sluggish engine, low power, hard starting, exhaust leaks, rough idle, and high fuel consumption. I have replace the carb ( 1bbr) with a reman, 2 exhaust manifolds. total costs to me over $1200, and I still have a crappy running truck.

I was told that mabye the head gasket is leaking or blown, and mabye the timing gears are bad and the engine jumped timing.

And suggestions or help will be appreciated.

I have all the tools needed to do any type of work, I just don't have much time as I use this truck to go to and from work. I could rent a car for a couple days or a week, but that would mean keeping the repair cost way down.

Thanks

Richard

Could definitely be a timing issue. Improper timing could cause all of the problems including cracked manifolds due to overheating. Unfortunately, I don't know any mechanics in Boerne. I would definitely borrow or rent a timing light and check that first. Drop me a PM if I can be of help. I am in the SA area.
