Tried the acetone gig.....

Hey all,

Tried out the acetone gig-didn't do a damn thing. I did 12 tanks, both highway and city, nothing changed. Don't waste your time on this one. I would still like to hear from anyone else who has a chip (other than Superchip-I have feedback on that already) and their impression of it.

Thanx,
HEATH67

How in the hell are people getting 17mpg out of thier 460's? I can't break 15mpg even when driving it 'nicely' at 55mph on the highway. Maybe its time for a new O2 sensor or something, IDK.....

Well, I'm already running 3.55 gears with 33" tires, which gives me an effective ratio of about 3.43, and the ZF has a 0.76:1 overdrive. That should be pleanty high to get good mileage. It doesn't lug at all and has pleanty of get-up, so I don't think lower gears would help either....I guess I just have to be satisfied with 14mpg.

One of the things that I find out help me to get better gas mileage with my tow rig and my motorhome is if I drive with a vacuum gauge. I try to hold it at or over 12" hg. Of course, that can not be done all the time, but if you concentrate on working with the gauge, you could find some help on your mileage.

I have 75 Supercab Camper Special with 460, C6 and Dana 3.73 rear and I got 8 mpg. I just finished putting a NV4500 5 speed in it and will test it in a day or two. I got the new exhaust in today and I am looking forward to some better mileage I hope-especially after all that work. I will post the results as soon as I get it. Don

The vacuum gauge helps me keep my foot light also. Wouldn't run without one but then a 10% mileage increase is usually less than 1 mpg anyway

Clyde is consistantly 6-8 towing the 5th wheel and 10-11 solo. Have really considered the Gearvendors OD but I can put a LOT of fuel thru the carb for the cost of one of those babies! And I can also buy fuel instead of $600 / mo truck payments. One of the joys of an almost 22 year old truck ... IT'S PAID FOR!!!

Just finished a couple of 250 mile trips in my 1990 460 EFI powered motorhome with a 5.12:1 rear axle. I weigh in at 16,900 loaded with full fuel, propane and half tank of water. I have been getting 7.5 constantly and that includes using my 7.5 Kwh generator, judicially, while parked for AC and appliances.

I usually travel at 3000 RPM which is around the 60 MPH mark. Light footedness is the key to getting lots of miles out of a 90 gallon tank.

Unfortunately, the last trip the coach started to overheat and used 4 quarts of oil. It is in the shop right now being checked while I will be on a trip this coming week on the bike.

Beyond just gearing you have to consider the differences between the weight and 4wd vs. 2wd. A F250/350, 4wd, extended cab, lwb, etc. will not get near the gas mileage of the same running gear in a F100 SWB 2wd.
