Used truck has no spare tire key...
#16
Took truck in this past Saturday...
They had it for over 2 hours to replace the spare tire lock with a new one. Then I recieved a call on my cell phone and was told that they needed to order another part. Now I have to take it back this Saturday so they can finish the job. Glad I don't have to pay for any of this.

If they were going to drill it out, all I gotta say is that they must have one heck of a long drill bit! My Dad bought an '03 F150 last summer and it didn't have the key with it either....the salesman told him they had the master keys and they tried but couldn't get them to work. Dad took it a few more places that assured him that they could get the tire down.....no luck. So, after a little bit of 'begging' on my part, Dad brings it to my shop and I had the spare tire down in less than an hour and now you can use the jack handle to crank it down without the key. I can't believe anyone would steal his spare, but I guess it has happened to other people. The reason they master keys wouldn't work is that the 'lock' was so corroded with dirt/rust that the keys wouldn't fit in the pattern on the lock. Dad and Mom were so pleasantly surprised and still don't know how I did it, but it's alot easier than you think...

I had a problem with mine being worn out and full of sand/dirt, it got to be a pain. So I went underneath, twisted the tube and pulled it out, then you have full access to the keyed "lock", I pried it out with a screwdriver so now it doesnt need a key. If I was concerned with losing my spare I would put a real lock on it with a cable. Now I can crank away at my spare and have it lowered down in a few seconds. With my worn key it would not crank every turn as it did not grab well enough. Problem solved for me!

And I would also like to see this drill bit the dealer suggested... plus what the hell would a drill bit do other than making it way worse
