Replacing Fog lamp bulbs

Replacing Fog lamp bulbs
Got a pm question on replacing the fog lamp bulbs with direct swap 9005's and thought I'd post it here in case others may want to do it...
if this is repetitive - apologies !!!
If you use the fogs for fogs - don't do this - the brighter lamps will be too bright for fog... I use mine for wide angle driving lights more or less....
As far as the bulb color, depends on which 9005 u get... some are whiter than others - just get the brightest whitest as stated on the package.... and anything will be brighter than the stock bulbs - if I recall the stocks are 30 to 45 watts and the 9005's can be 55w to 65W, maybe even 100W for specialty bulbs, so a LOT brighter...
Got my 55W 9005 bulbs at Wal-mart, and as far as how easy the swap is... taking the grill off allowed me to get my chunky little hands in there !
and then twist the bulb and slide it out...
The grill has four or five obvious screws on the top, and 4 or 5 "C" clips on the bottom... what i did was...
Unscrew and remove all but the top left screw,
Loosen the top left screw to allow some movement of grill,
Then start at the bottom right with a wide long flat screw driver that can be pushed into the c-clip...
Twist slightly while pulling on the grill a bit to release it... Moved to the next clip to the left and so on in order...
as the clips are released, support the grill since it is light "plastic" and can't support it's own weight...
when all clips are released, remove the last screw and holding the grill with both hands to support it, lay it to the side...
Replacing the bulbs is then an easy twist and pull of the bulb...
Putting the bottom back on was easiest for me
by removing the clips from the body,
slipping them on the grill first,
then putting the screws in (not tight) at the top and
allowing the grill to pivot back in at bottom
(having the screws in, positions the clips properly)
then snap the clips in place...
be gentle through the whole process - the grill is light plastic and can be twisted too far and/or break !
but if you don't have to deal with fog, REALLY makes a difference in the amount of light put out by the fogs...
and it's a great wide, low light pattern...
(and while the grill is off, other mods in that area are easily done --- like if you consider the "Zoodad" mod a viable mod...)
Have fun "seeing" the difference

I have thought about replacing the 899 or 9145s in the foglamps of my Cobra. I am currently in the process of adding the foglamps to the Ex.
When I look at the bulbs side by side, I see a difference in the connector. I know lots of SD guys do this as well as the Cobra guys...but does it really just plug in?
And..with the added wattage bulb there must be more heat and pwoer usage. No problems with damaging the harnesses or pastic lenses?
