MAF = Mass Air Flow

It is a device that measures the air flowing into the motor and tells the engine computer how much so the engine computer will send the correct signal to the injectors so you get the right amount of fuel.

I need a fresh engine so now is the time to stuff in some more cubic inches if it is possible.
I have a 74 van (Pathfinder conversion I think) 5.0 H.O. carbed out of a 87
(firechiefs car ? thats all I know) C-4, 4.10 gearing, Ok power at low end but working hard a 65 m.p.h.
I was thinking of changing to higher gearing and putting in a bigger engine but the van has limited space under the dog house.
I know anything is possible but what are some options for bigger engines ?
FYI Dart has just come out with a set of ready to go aluminum, high flowing heads for the 5 liter, and they're $450 each. That's pretty darned cheap for ready to bolt on heads. A stock block bored .030 over with 9.2-1 pistons and a fairly healthy cam will give you and easy 350 hp/350-370 torq and reasonable rpm. An Air gap single plane manifold with a 750 cfm carb and you have a pulling machine with relatively good gas mileage. Even better is go to an EFI set up, it will be a little more work but it will be worth it. I just saw these new heads, so I know this thread is fairly old but, you never know, see ya, Ken
