1977 F250 Extended cab

Hello...I typically post in the 1967-1972 area, as I own a 1969 F100 but I am considering purchasing a 1977 F250 extended cab, longbed camper special. 1200 miles on a rebuilt 460 ( includes all documentation), air, dual batteries and fuel tanks, cruise ( not factory ) aftermarket junk stereo, chrome spoke wheels, decent interior, new radiator ( with engine rebuild) and new brakes in all 4 corners ...no rust that can be seen from the photos, and the owner said "NO RUST" ( it is in LA, I am in Iowa )...seriously thinking about flying down and driving it back. The current owner had it a year...he purchased it with intentions of pulling a horse trailer...then hurt his back and cant ride anymore...sold everything but the truck now his wife said it has to go. He also is giving me the previous owners name and number ( person who had the engine work done) so I can discuss the internals of the engine. NADA said the retail range is approx 2300 (low) and 5900 (high) for this truck. I am thinking I can get it for under $2500, plus travel ( $150 one way there, fuel back..about another $325), motel...food...etc. so maybe a total of $3200. I think it is a steal, personally. You can not find trucks in this condition in the Midwest...and the ones that look good from the road are pieces of junk when you start to look close. Anway, what are your opinions? What are some issues that I should look for with this model of truck? I don't know squat about the 73-79 model years....I am getting to know my 69 very intimately!

Sounds like a bargain to me. That would be a good truck - 460, supercab, dual tanks/batteries and no rust...

The things to watch out for are the same as your '69. Rust. Rust causes problems with the front cab supports and the cab corners on a supercab. Mechanically, it will be very similar to your '69.

I have the same truck and it is a great truck. I pull my 22' travel trailer with two four wheelers on the bed of the truck up and down mountains and it handles it just fine. I would think that would be a great deal. I paid $2,600 for mine here in Southern Utah with no rust either. I did have the 460 rebuilt and have been customizing it over the past few years. I have about $5000 into it now. But it is my main truck and I drive it all over the country with now problems. Easy to work on, fun to drive, and great looking. I only need a nice paint job now and it will look much nicer.

Cool..thanks for the input. This will be a weekend/trip vehicle only but when we go, we GO fairly long distances. I would imagine the 460 won't even know there is 5000lbs of boat back there.......

May I ask why in particular you are interested in this year/model truck? Is it because of the rust issues? or is it simply to tow/haul etc?

Rust causes problems with the front cab supports and the cab corners on a supercab.
And don't forget to look at the floorpans and over the rear wheel wells. If all that is good it sounds like a great buy.
