Transmission Reverse Planet Replacement

PROGRAM TERMS

This program will be in effect until September 30, 2005 regardless of mileage. Coverage is automatically transferred to subsequent owners.

AFFECTED VEHICLES

Certain 2004 Model Year F-250/350/450/550 Super Duty, Econoline, and Excursion vehicles equipped with a 5R110 TorqShift transmission built from March 8, 2004 through June 24, 2004. Affected vehicles are identified in OASIS....

REASON FOR THIS PROGRAM

Some 2004 MY Excursion, Super Duty and Econoline vehicles equipped with a 5R110 TorqShift transmission may have low/reverse gear set pinion shaft(s) that may walk out, causing metallic particle contamination. If this condition were to occur, it may lead to harsh/slipping shifts and/or harsh/delayed forward/reverse engagements. If these symptoms are ignored, this could eventually lead to a transmission failure.

SERVICE ACTION

At no charge to the vehicle owner, dealers are to replace the reverse planet assembly on all of the affected vehicles. Note: If vehicles are repaired in a timely manner, secondary transmission damage can be avoided.

REPAIR OF IN-STOCK VEHICLES

Dealers should service in-stock vehicles first because these vehicles will not have secondary damage, and will not require additional repairs beyond the reverse planet replacement.

OWNER NOTIFICATION MAILING SCHEDULE

To ensure the needed supply of parts are available for dealers , owners of affected vehicles will not be notified by mail until the beginning of January, 2005. Please note that dealers should repair any affected vehicles that arrive at their dealerships, whether or not the customer has received a letter. In addition, dealers should repair in-stock units before sale to minimize future customer inconvenience.

my truck falls within this build date too, but I haven't gotten anything in the mail yet...hmmm

 

How do you know what the build date is on the Transmission.....??
I have a plow too but I have not uesd it...

I have a 2005 xlt 5.4 with 2300 miles on it...

 

Under driver's side of truck on trani case is small tag..it will give you MM-YY-DD for your trani build date........ mine is 04-04-26...April 26, 2004

Yup! Just came back from the dealership, it's an official recall on all Torque-shift trannis manufactured from March 04 to June 04. The clip that holds the planetary reverse gear in place either shears off or slides off allowing the planetary to walk back & forth on the shaft. It goes in for teardown in two days(weds). The techs wanted to know where I got my info from......HAH ! FTE SHINES AGAIN !!!! THANKYOU !

 

My 05 F350 6L PSD TS (door sticker build date 10/04) has a transmission date of 10/26/04 (261004). Note the format is is DD-MM-YY on mine. No issues with this one and is outside the recall. I don't have plow. FYI..

 

I have a May 2004 truck with a May tranny in it. I checked the Ford website and no recall for me as of yet...

Thanks for the link on the recall check. I am not in my truck today, so I will check when I get home. I did check my tranny bild date last night and the little silver tag said 3-19-04, so I think it should fall in the recall period. BTW, where do I find the engine build date exactly? I know its been asked and answered before, but since were on build dates anyway???

 

my truck and tranny have a june 04 build date. I called my dealer today and asked them to check my vin and the recall number. They said nothing showed up for either one. They had not heard anything yet about a recall. They said they would call me as soon as they heard though. Good luck all.

 

No, not bogus guy's. My truck is currently in the shop as I type this reply. There is a parts shortage, so when they have the tranny out and ready, then Ford parts overnights the part to the dealer. The good news, is Ford is paying for my rental. I have a 2004 Cheby 1500 super cab, 4X4. A real piece of (you know what). Now I can really compare.........

 

If you give them your VIN #, any decent dealer can run an Oasis report and that will tell them everything. I took my truck in because of the engine warning light. My Tranny would not shift, they ran an Oasis and kept the truck.
