Spare tire size

Just upgraded my tire/rims from stock 17" 255 70 to the optional 18" 275 65(stock take-offs). I know the diameter difference is small( 1"). My question is, do I need to change the spare to match or will it be O.K.? FX4, 4 x 4 , 3.73 LS. Thanks for the help.

Well, it won't do the LS clutches any good if you have to put the smaller spare on the rear axle. Probably wouldn't hurt anything just go a mile or two to get a new tire. If you did need to travel any distance on it you'd have to put it on the front end and move one of the bigger front end tires to the rear...Then don't use 4 wheel drive till you get 4 on the same size.

Thanks Dunk, that's exactly what I was thinking(with the LS), just wasn't sure. It's a PITA, but it beats buying a new spare.

I haven't bought one yet, but everyone says they work great. The time turning the lug nuts off/on is the time/labor killer... I've seen others cheaper from Harborfreight... Look through their web site..

On the thought of using a different size spare... Pickup another cheap jack and keep it in the truck. Being able to lift both ends will cut down on the jacking if you you need to swap rubber front to back.. A bottle of slime tire sealer can work wonders in a pinch also..if you carry a portable air compressor?? Depends on how far you need to drive...
