4bbl Carb on 2bbl Manifold

79 F-150, stock 400 motor, C6 Auto Trans.

Currently has a 2150 carb on it that is in serious need of replacement. It was in need or work when put on and now even worse. I want to put a 4 bbl carb and manifold on it, but don't have enough green for both right now.

Don't really have time to rebuild the 2150, so reman only option. AutoZone has em for about $150. For another $100 I can get a Holley Street Avenger. Hate the idea of dropping most of the price of a 4 bbl on a 2 bbl that will ultimately be replaced, if I don't have to.

Question is, will the Holler 4bbl mount and be functional with that killer $16.99 4bbl to 2bbl adapter that AutoZone sells until I can buy a 4bbl manifold?

If so, opinions on whether Weiand or Edelbrock manifolds would be better for the 400 CID?

As long as the adapter you buy has the proper spacing for your 2bbl manifold and whatever 4bbl carb you want, it will fit; it just won't be very "functional" (you can't cram 6# of potatoes in a 3# bag). You may have to modify the linkage also.

I understand I won't get the full benefit from the 4bbl, but will it work at least as well as the 2150 2bbl? Damn thing only gets 7 mpg on the street and 11+ on the highway. If this mod will reduce those numbers, it isn't gonna happen.

I'd be real surprised if you see an improvement in mpg with this set-up, especially if you don't disable the secondaries on the 4bbl.

You will see an improvement from a 2bbl carb and intake to a 4bbl carb AND intake, yes the adapter will work for now, the way you say its running you May even see an improvement with the 4bbl carb and adapter on the stock manifold, but dont bet on it, it will work as a temporary solution to your problem until you have the Benjamins to buy the intake

I have a relative with a 400

Im also in the same boat you are with wifes truck, need a carb, cant afford the carb AND intake, so this question was right up my alley.
