You can still get radios that have the two **** shafts that will bolt right in and have all of the modern stuff. The selection is very limited however. I just bent the two tabs back out of the way used a stock bezel I got on Ebay that I cut out to accept a rectangular DIN mount and stuffed in a CD player. The way I did it the only thing I butchered was the Bezel and it can be replaced. The advantage is that once the bezel has been modified you can put in any modern radio in a matter of minutes.
If you remove the glovebox be careful; that old cardboard tears easily and it's $15 for a replacement. Anyhow, if you are not a purist I would recommend you go with an MP3 player. You can burn over 100 tunes onto one CD and have much fun. To fit it in you can do as other have suggested and simply bend back the factory metal ears or you can get out the old hax saw. Tell yourself you intend to weld them back on later if you feel guilt when you lop them off. Good luck. Post photos.

if your like me and like to keep the factory look with an FM radio, i got one out of an early 70, like 73 or 74. it just mounts right in there and still looks like it came in the truck. I think theres a picture somewhere in my gallery if you want to look.
i bent the ears back, then used a couple of zip screws from steel studs and screwed to the holes in the dash for the cover plate.the radio sticks out a little, but has held for over 3 years.i just got the bezzel the other day and haven't had time to mod it yet.
I had standard DIN mount radios in my 69 for 10 years before I got one of the bezels. The radio was just fine as far as stability it just didn't look very good. The bezel dressed it up and made it look more finished.
you can go aftermarket. some of the parts suppliers on here and others have aftermarket head units to fit our old trucks. you may even check with custom autosound. dont know how much youre looking to spend-they may be a bit pricey.
