Compressor Clutch??

2004 SD 250 pickup. AC quit. The compressor clutch will not activate. Fuse good in panel, voltage at compressor OK. Looks like the a new compressor. Any ideas before I have to take the unit in for repair?

Thanks

Scott

You may have a leak and the pressure is to low for the compressor to engage, there is a low pressure cutoff switch that keeps the compressor/clutch from working when the freon charge is low.

You're getting power to the clutch? If so, that rules out the pressure switch. Likely time to have the clutch replaced.

Does sound like a clutch problem but I would check the gap between the clutch plates. Not sure what the spec is on your application but if gap is too much clutch won't engage. You say it's a 2004, is the warrenty out? If not, let the dealer have the headache instead of you!LOL Hope that helps. Carl
