What would you like to know that's not on the web site so far.

9.7-9.8:1 compression, aussie 302 heads with 2.190/1.760 valves and no port work. Purpose will probably be for a truck since it will have a rear sump oil pan. I'm not keeping it, when this is done with the dyno work, we will sell it. ( except the intake manifolds we have borrowed)

I hate to horn in on TMI but,,,,,,,,,I am looking for a cam also. The 400 is bored 0.030 over. The crank is at "Crankshafts Are Us". We're going with Badger flat tops which I am told will produce a CR between 9 and 9.5. Rebuilt heads with new springs and roller rockers,Edelbrock performer intake, no carb choice yet, headers, DUI ignition. It's going in a 79 F350 4X4 with Dana 60's front and rear. On the weekends and during snowstorms, I'll bolt the 44 Boggers on it, otherwise it's a street truck. I am looking for low end torque.

i have the comp 268 and it's one helluva smokepole. it makes alot of power through the whole power band. i love this grind and highly reccomend it. the part number is 32-221-3 and the grind is fc 268H-10. it does have a rumpity idle but thats what we all want anyhow right? good luck with what ever you use though.

Most of these cams generate lift in the range of 0.490 to 0.510. "Bubba" says stock valve springs can go solid and bend pushrods at 0.480 or 0.490 depending on the type of valve. There isn't much attractive out there at under 0.480 lift. My machine shop is wary of changing springs for fear of having extra cost for machine work, retainers, keepers and such. Is there a "drop in kit" which isn't going to cost a fortune?

Virtually all cam manufacturers will tell you what springs they recommend for a particular cam and most of them will even sell them to you. They can also tell you if you'll need to get the heads machined. The Crower 15241 tht I put in my 400 required dual springs. They came with a set of "guides" for the springs, small metal cups that fit in the area where the spring contacts the head. No machining necessary.

Talking

I'm using the 268/218 .490 lift comp cam. 3.50 gears, C6, 15.5-35-15 Super swamper, and I can roast them till they smoke.
P.S. what happened to our signatures. too much band width?

I run a Competition Cam 268h with a Edelbrock Performer 400 intake Holly 600 Vac sec. that I made into a mech sec. Dialed the cam in. Engine was all stock run it over 100,000 miles in 74 f100 c-6 3.25 gear run mid 14,s very relaible ride. Not the fastest thing out there but for a 4600lb truck I thought it was great. Just my 2cents

You might be talking about the bolt on "fulcrum type" rocker arms.

You should use the valve springs recommended by Comp Cams for that cam. You may need to change pushrods or get adjustable rockers. You do not need to remove the pedastals for screw in studs. There are several choices for roller rocker conversions. If you can wait until it is assembled, you can determine at that time if you can use your stock rockers and pushrods.

My 400 was completly stock other than the cam, intake, carb, and timeing chain. I did run a Maroso 1" carb spacer. I belive that I run a power valve that opened at 10.5 " of vacume instead of the way to low factory 6.5". My engine had 76,000 miles on it, came out of a wrecked 75 Mercury Montego. I put the cam, intake and carb on it when it went into the truck. I put over 100,000 more miles on it in the truck. I loved it ran great. Ive heard of a few problems with the 400s bending push rods. Mine never did. You might need to buy better push rods just to be safe. I really enjoyed it lots of power from about 1800 rpm up to 6200-6300 rpm.
