RPM Drops and then Drops more after shift

At WOT My truck shifts from 1st to 2nd at about 4800 rpm. Drops to around 3400 rpm when it hits second. Then once it is in second it will drop to about 3100 rpm, hasitate for a few seconds and then start climbing. Kinda feels like I am climbing a big hill when I hit second gear. I seem to notice it doing it at about half throttle also. Not as bad though. Any ideas what could be causing this?

Replaced Fuel filter early last summer. Probably time to clean the air filter. Guess I'll clean the MAF also. Worth a try. Thanks.

How do you clean the MAF Sensor, and where is it located?

Fred, Check out the READ FIRST faq thread in the 97-03 forum. There are many good tips in there. Cleaning the MAF is one of them. It's pretty easy, too.

Well cleaning the MAF didn't help my problem. My engine check light came on the other day. I had the Auto parts store pull the code this evening. The said it was O2 sensor. Guess I'll replace it and see what happens.

After talking to a few of my buddies. I found out it might be my tourqe converter locking up right after it shifts into second.
