Don't Forget To Lube Your Shifter

Hi Gang It's Winter Time Here In Buffalo And We Depend On Our Four Wheel Drive. I Went To Test Out My 4/4 And My Shifter Was Frozen Up . I Sprayed The Shifter And Linkage From Underneath The Truck . You Have To Spray It Generously With A Good Lubricant , And Work It.

That kind of shoots a hole in the old "manual shifters always works, esof is unreliable" argument.

no way they are more relieable than auto's , it still will work but you have to force it. there is a lot of salt a action going on in buffalo. so you have to keep the shifter lubicated, i should have used it during the summer. i only order my trucks with manual shifters.

Uh-Oh! Clux - methinks you touched a nerve with the "levers only" crowd with that one!

It all depends on how often you use it. I have a 91 Bronco and 2000 F-350 both wht esof, neither have ever failed me, but I go in and out of 4wd a lot. I had instances with both my 86 and 91 F-250's (both with manual shift)where I couldn't lock the hubs in because of ice. Therefore, from my perspective, there is no way that the manual system is more reliable than esof.

When not used frequently, both systems may become unreliable. I think that esof has gotten a bad reputation because the people who tend to buy them don't use their 4wd often and then are angry when it doesn't work.

If you don't use use it, you lose it - guess it's true all-way 'round.
