Looking to buy and F250 or F350
I am new to the PSD. I have a friend who owns one, and I am very impressed with the performance of his PSD. Here is my dilema.
I am looking at two trucks here locally.
Truck number one is a 1995 F350 PSD SuperCrew 4 Door Dually XLT. This truck is in very nice condition. This truck is a 2wd, leather interior, power windows, power locks, Automatic, Cruise ect...110,000 miles. I know the owner of this truck and it has been very well taken care of. This truck runs and drives fine. The owner of this truck is also going to throw in a very nice swivel/slider 5th wheel hitch. The only problems with this truck is it will need new tires, and a windshield. This truck can be bought for about $8800.00
Truck number 2 is a 1997 F250 PSD SuperCrew 4 Door shortbox 4x4. This truck is also in near mint condition. This truck is loaded with power windows, power locks, Automatic, cloth interior, cruise, ect.... This truck has 29,000 actual miles on it. The low miles is because the owner only uses this truck to pull his enclosed trailer to the race track about 20-25 times a year. I also know this owner very well, and also know he takes excellent care of his vehicles. The price on this truck is around $14000.00
I/we pull an 18' foot open car trailer 20-25 times a summer, and we would like to buy a 26' or so 5th wheel trailer next year for camping. I think both trucks would work just fine. I have never owned a 1 ton dually before, but I am sure I could get used to it.
I drive a 1991 dodge spirit to and from work everyday, and the 4x4 is not a must for me since I have a 1976 4x4 I also use at work, and could easily use it at home if need be. I am just looking for some feedback from other PSD F250 and F350 enthusiasts.
Thanks for any feedback.

Personally, I would get the '97 with the 4x4, I could never buy a truck without four wheel drive. They both sound like a really good deal and it's even better that you know the previous owner of both, and know what you are getting.
The one ton dually will probably be nicer for pulling, but with a gooseneck trailer, you don't get a lot of sway from side to side like you do with a bumper hitch, so the 250 would work fine. The only thing with the 250 is the short bed, if you like to haul a lot of stuff in your box, it'll make it tough. But with a gooseneck trailer you'll have enough room in the trailer to put everything.
The low miles on the '97 is awesome, that motor isn't even broke in yet! They both are sitting well in miles.
I don't think you can go wrong with either one, determine which one best fits your needs and get it! Good luck!!

If the primary use for the truck is going to be towing then, hands down, the dually is going to do a better job. I've owned both. The dually is much more stable. I even had a tire failure on the dually while towing the 5th wheel back home from vacation and the only way that I could tell was by the sound that it made. I never even felt it when the right rear inner tire blew out the sidewall without warning at 70mph. Just a giant hissing, whoosing sound. ZERO swaying or unstable feeling. Plus on the rig that you are considering you don't have all that extra weight on the truck with the 4x4 equipment.
