To skweeker,
Thank you very much, your discription was perfect. I would still be looking for the wires if not for your help. I hook the wires using a light relay and a toggle switch along with a small 12 volt light from radio shack. The switch is under the lower removable panel in the middle with the small light near the obd II port. I had to use a diode from the service side of the switch because of the intermittent ground sourse was bleeding back voltage. The ground I used is the wire for the parking brake light.
I never could find a tag that said refer to "body builders guide" the only tags I could find was this wire loom was "Made in Mexico". I guess I was really lucky to even find the blue w yellow stripe & white w blue stripe.
It works great and thank you again "skweeker" I owe you one.

1200 rpm's attained by this mod....enough to prevent "wet-stacking"?

I don't see why not. That's why I did this mod.

I have a 2005 5.4l auto 5spd. I have the upfitter switches and hooked up the #4 switch for high idle using the orange wire. My truck only goes up to about 900 rpms. it is curremtly about 75 degress around here if this matters. How can I get around 1200 rpms with out adding any dials or boxes. I am hoping there is another wire I could use. Thanks Nate

Nate, this mod was designed around the "PTO operation" parameters that are in use with the 6.0L diesels. I am surprised that it does anything with the 5.4L gasser, but I have never installed a PTO on one with the 5.4L, only gasser I have done is an older 6.8L V10. If you install the trim pot (potentiometer), and the switch works to increase the RPM's, then you should be able to advance the pot and make it higher. That would required installing the "dial" though.

Caddofarmer, yes it is enough to prevent wet-stacking because 1200 RPM's is high enough to create sufficient heat in the combustion chamber to burn all of the fuel injected. One way that you can see this is to install an EGT gauge (pyrometer) and watch the Exhaust Gas Temps rise and maintain a much higher level than at idle. A diesel at idle with no load will actually cool down, but at 1200 it will not cool down.

would I "trim" the 12 volt signal to the orange wire so that it is around 11 volts or is this just for another wire? Thanks Nate.

I would recommend hooking it up just as the instructions say to with the trim pot just as it is stated and you should be able to increase above 900. Good luck and happy reading. Mat

just as a thought. if the rpms increase with lower voltage then would just hooking the orange wire up to the 12 volts idle up the engine if there was a large draw on the elctrical system such as an inverter. This is the main reason I am interested in this mod. Thanks Nate

No, but you can install the switch remote somewhere so that when you are using the power output from the inverter you can flip the switch to get the power you need. Or, you can get a voltmeter with a murphy switch and when it drops it will engage the low end which provides power to a relay to control the idle signal and then when it raises to the high end, it hits the opposite murphy switch turning off the high idle signal. May not be that simple in practice, but the theory sure sounds simple. Good luck. Mat

Just did this mod on my new 05 F250 SD. Wanted to post a simplified version for the 05. Orange wire in the harness near the park brake release lever, Blue wire with white stripe in the harness going to the obd prot connector. Both of these wires are not hooked into any connectors, and are just loose in their respective harness'. Hooking the orange to one pole of a two pole toggle switch, and the blue with white stripe to the other pole. Place the park brake on, turn the swtich to the on position with the engine running and the idle will slowley raise to 1200 rpm. If you hit the brake pedal, or release the park brake, the idle will go back down to stock. Remember to turn the switch off though. Some here have suggested using illimunated switchs to not forget to turn it off.

**If any of this info is not correct Me1mckee please correct me.**

FWIW, got areally neat led toggle switch and mount bracket from Advance auto parts for around $4.00 for both. It has a blue led in the rocker, and is big time visable during the day.

Unhappy High Idle Mod

Hello, I just tried the high idle mod on an '05 6.0 auto. yesterday when i just connected the 2 wires together (orange and wt/blue) it rose to 1200rpm. but today when i wired a switch when i had the parking brake set and would switch the switch to on it would blow the "customer access" fuse. (did this to me twice) well ran out of fuses and figured yall might be able to tell me how to fix my problem on why its blowing the fuse.
