Driving from Northern Virginia to Houston Texas, best route?

Hello all,
Happily taking the 2004 Supercrew to its new home in Houston, Texas. Will be driving from Leesburg Va. to Houston(Spring) Tx on October 29th. I mapped it out in Mapquest and it takes me down western virginia to Ten. across Ten through ark. and then into Texas down 59. is there a better route? I am looking for the fastest route not the most scenic.
Thanks in advance for your replys

That's the most scenic by far, I'm assuming your driving I40 through TN. The views are great. I used to drive from Norfolk VA to Marble Falls TX which is six hours west of Houston every year for Christmas. I used to take I85 to Atlanta and from there I picked up I20 to I believe I65 in AL and then I10. I believe this is the correct path, it's been a while since I last drove it. It is a 20 hour drive so your drive may be a little shorter especially if you can take I95 to I85 which is just outside of Emporia VA. If you do go through Emporia be aware of their speed traps, they have a lot of them, trust me and my bank account. I'm currently suck in England (12 more days!) and I don't have a map of the U.S.

The absolute quickest route is to go down the spine of virginia:

Interstate 81 to Bristol
Go through Knoxville
Go through Chattanooga
Cut the corner of Ga and go through Birmingham (I-59)
Through Meridian, Hattiesburg
At Slidell, LA take I-12 on the north side of Lake Pontchartrain
10 west through Lafayette to Houston

I've been all ways between Wash DC to New Orleans (85 via atlanta, and also via Mobile). WHat I gave you above is THE fastest and shortest.

Microsoft Streets and Trips says...
I-66...I-81...I-75...I-59...I-12...I-10...I-45 1420 miles.......2 days, 6 hours driiving time.
20 mpg at 70 mph on hwy and 60 on limited access rds....should cost $136 for fuel.

I do believe it told you right. Have a good trip.

Thanks Peppy, DaParm and PowerStroke King.

PowerStroke King I looked at your directions and that is the quickest. Looking forward to leaving expensive Northern Virginia and moving back home to Spring, Texas.

Go Astros! (they should have never lost Nolan Ryan)
