NHTSA investigation on stalling...

If this has been discussed already I appologize...Though, it Seems that as of last week, the NHTSA has been doing a defect investigation on MY 2003 and MY 2004 Super Duty and Excursions with the 6.0 for stalling issues. If you go to http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/pr...fectsearch.cfm and enter PE04070 under NHTSA action number, it will give you information on what they've compiled so far during this investigation. So perhaps after this investigation there will be some light at the end of the tunnel for those with stalling problems in your 6.0's that have not yet been rectified

Michael,
how did you end up at the NHTSA? did you go through what we all went through with the dealer then the support line, then the Ford DSM, then the Ford Engineer, then the DSB? I read your report and that is my worst fear that my truck will stall out and I won't be able to make the turn and some one could get hurt.

actualy, I saw an article in my local newspaper today and the article didn't really give any specifics on what the causes were. I wen't to NHTSA's site to find some more info. this post was just more informative to the 6.0 owners that the NHTSA is looking into what's causing the stalling. Heck, I don't even own a SD yet. (due in on the 18th of this month).

It was more or less in response to Brentwoodjim's post asing if I had problems with a Super Duty. I don't own a Super Duty at the moment, however I will in the next week or so. So this post was just me looking out for you 6.0 guys

SandFever...If I happen to catch anything about it, I will update

I would say people with 6.0 's that have the saftey issue of stalling out should also report those trucks to the NHTSA, the NHTSA need to know that this is just not an occcasional incident. Maybe the pressure of the investigation will cause Ford to act. I too have a 05 6.0 on order do I have doubts about what I am doing yes! Why would a motor just flat quite at highway speeds? hmmm

Is this really prevalent ?!?!?!

I guess I've been off line too much lately, cuz this is news....

sure you got all the latest flashes ? Sounds like a new svc dept may be in order...

I sure would get a second opinion (or truck) if they are "stumped"

About a year ago, there were some reports with the NHTSA but was related to alleged stalling due to accelerator fault problems.

jdadamsjr,
for me in terms of is it prevelent, I have had it stall in the same downhill corner 5 times now. My fear is, it only takes once that I don't make the non power steering or brakes turn and go into the side of the hill. the NHTSA report looks like one other person failed to stop safely and caused injury and damage to another person. I don't want to end up in that boat so I am pursuing a replacement. From reading this board it appears many others are having the same or very similar problems.

Some, yes, many is a relative term. Define many. There are "many" driving these around with little or no problem at all. How many are bad decision making and then blaming the truck?

sbv45,
not quite sure I understand your reply. I agree that many people including many of my personal friends are driving a superduty around with no problems, I hope to be one of those, the sooner the better. As for my stalling problem there was no "bad decision making" involved. each time it was on a slight downhill corner, coasting, no acceleration, no bad choice of gearing, no choice at all it just happens, and when it does, it is a scary thing to try and turn a 7000lb truck with no power.

One time is too many! I don't know but Ive driven vehicles starting with 57 Chevy,a 79 Ford 1/2 ton and a 98 Expy and numerous different vehicles in the line of work and I have never had one immedatilty shut down while driving at good clip and loose all functioning. I suppose it happens although!
